Colour is important for me as starting point. I make colour references when I am painting outside. I’ve got a framework in mind from the sketches.  The landscape is used to inform some basic lines -they are an outline or a shadow of something that remains.

When I’m back in the studio the playfulness wants to come out.  There’s a loss of control and unpredictability with the paint. I’m finding the balance between having something in mind and letting go of an outcome.  The paintings have a naivety - a sort of magical realism. I like to create poetic, slightly crazy, imaginary places for people to explore.

My paintings are currently shown at the Aisling Gallery, West Cork and The Square Gallery, Cornwall.

“ Lesley-Ann’s painting of Barley cove makes me so happy. Every time I look at it takes me back there; I feel the sun on my face.”
